In the minor's gateway class, I worked on three main projects: Repurposing, Remediation, and Why I Write. In the repurposed piece, we were given the task of repurposing an essay that we had previously written. For me, I chose a topic that I'm extremely passionate about but, because of the original assignment's format, I felt like I couldn't write what I actually wanted to write. In the original assignment, I had to write for my psychology professor who would be grading my paper, assessing if I met the requirements on the rubric. In the repurposing, for the first time, I had an excuse to take an assignment with so much potential and actually try to unlock that assignment's true potential in my own way.
We then needed to take this repurposed piece and change it again, by remediating it. In this project, we had to communicate the same message as we did in our repurposing, but through a different medium. I leapt off of the written page and created a video. I interviewed people across campus, asking them the very questions I asked myself in my repurposing.
